Job Summary
This is a combined position, providing assistance in the classroom as well as support services to families.
During classroom hours, work cooperatively with Classroom Teachers in providing age and developmentally appropriate preschool education and activities. Ensure Head Start Performance Standards and Rule 3 licensing requirements are being met at all times.
Establish rapport and build relationships with families while providing necessary and individualized support in order for families to get out of poverty. Assist clients in identifying and eliminating personal, social, financial, education, and employment barriers that result in poverty and/or dependency on public assistance.

Education/Experience:
- Minimum: Child Development Associate/Certificate
- Preferred: Associates or Two-Year College Degree in Early Childhood Education.
- Family Development Specialist Certification or willingness to obtain through the agency.
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, Sudden Unexplained Infant Death, and Preventing Abusive Head Trauma, or willingness to obtain through agency.

- Education

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive and employee will also perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned.
Area 1: Classroom Operations
- Assist in carrying out daily schedule and activities.
- Assist with preparing meals and snacks, cleaning the room, preparing materials for classroom activities, completion of paperwork, etc.
- Assist staff in planning and supervising outings, field trips, and special events.
- Help plan for routines and transitions so that they occur in a timely and predictable manner according to each child’s needs.
- Help provide a learning environment that is inclusive of children with disabilities.
- Help promote each child’s physical development.
- Assist with the provision of an appropriate child development and education approach for all children.
- Assist in the provision of an environment that will encourage self-control by setting clear, consistent limits and having realistic expectations.
- Assist in collecting and documenting TS Gold observations to be assessed three times yearly.
- Observe and view all areas of the classroom, and react appropriately and immediately in the event of an emergency, including by evacuating children from the room if necessary.
- Assist Classroom Teacher in assuring all health and safety procedures are followed.
- Assist Classroom Teacher in making certain that staff and volunteers are adhering to safe practices.
- Support and respect the home language, culture, and family composition of each child in ways that support the child’s well-being.
- Knowledge and awareness of active supervision.
Area 2: Family Support Services
- Develop family goals based on strengths and needs identified by the family.
- Build relationships with families through home visits, Family First Events and meetings, and other one-on-one parent contacts.
- Develop an individualized Family Partnership Agreement with each family according to needs and family goals, promoting self-sufficiency; timetables and strategies in measurable and attainable goals.
- Schedule Home Visits with families according to goals identified and case management needs as identified in the family partnership process.
- Encourage parents to participate in Family First Event planning meetings, Parent Education, Policy Council, Circles of Support, and other community organizations and events
Area 3: Program Operations
- Assist with implementing initiatives, such as Fatherhood/Male Involvement and Grand Parents Raising Grandchildren, Health Education, ABC’s of Financial Literacy, Health Literacy, etc.
- Recruit and maintain full enrollment in assigned service area for the program year.
- Recruit and maintain Policy Council representation throughout the year for each assigned site.
Area 4: Program Compliance
- Complete the first Home Visit within thirty (30) days of the start of the program and/or family enrollment.
- Meet with teachers before Home Visits in the fall and as needed thereafter to discuss child and family issues and record as a staff meeting in Child Plus.
- Provide one documented contact with each family on a monthly basis. Document all services and referrals and follow up provided to help families meet their basic needs.
- Submit required paperwork to the Education Department by given deadlines.
- Collect and enter accurate information into Head Start data systems.
- Share any major issues or events happening with families with the team as needed.
- Report identified or suspected child abuse or neglect to the appropriate entity: county, state, supervisor depending on the suspected abuse.
- Assist with follow-up on necessary Head Start requirements: i.e. medical, dental, etc. and communicate as needed with the Health Services Manager.
- Protect confidentiality and privacy of families by using release/exchange of information forms and disseminating information on a “need to know” basis.
- Keep Outlook Calendar up to date.
Area 5: Health & Safety
- Give necessary referrals for additional services for any household member; advocate for the household in receipt of services, completing all necessary documentation.
- Work with other agencies to share goals and objectives and obtain necessary releases to share this information.
- Collaborate within agency and outside agencies to avoid duplication of services.
