Early Head Start (EHS)
Serves 41 children in Koochiching and Itasca Counties, 17 in the Grand Rapids in a combination program with teen mothers, 12 in Koochiching County Home-Base and an additional 12 in a Home Base option in Itasca County.
Early Head Start/Teen Parent Program
In Itasca County we provide EHS services to 16 pregnant and parenting teen mothers. This program option works in conjunction with the Alternative Learning Center (ALC), Children’s Mental Health, Jobs & Training, Public Health and other community partners to support teen mothers in completing High School and receiving there diploma. Children attend the EHS center two times per week while the parents attend classes at the ALC as well as the Itasca Resource center that earn them credits towards graduation. Families enrolled in the program also receive two home visits per month and additional support to assist them in there roles as parents and to plan for on going education and or employment after graduation.

Early Head Start services are also available in the home setting. The program provides services for women who are pregnant and families with infants or toddlers. This program option goes from August thru June with the month of July off. Teachers make weekly home visits to each family that focus on parent/child bonding and child development. Two socialization times each month are available for parent education, peer support, and interaction with other infants and toddlers.
