What is Head Start?
Head Start is a child and family development program for income-eligible households in Itasca and Koochiching Counties. The program is designed to help young children, aged birth to five, and their families achieve their full potential. The Head Start program literally gives children a head start on their journey of lifelong learning. The program also gives families the chance to work on goal setting to help them move out of poverty and into self-sufficiency.

In respect of the varying and changing needs of families Head Start offers the following Program Options:
Head Start Preschool
Serves 217 children in Itasca and Koochiching Counties. Head Start Preschool programs focus on the three to five year old child’s development. Our program provides developmentally appropriate learning experiences and activities that nurture growth and positive physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development to prepare your child for entry into kindergarten. The Head Start program year runs from September – May.
Preschool options
Center Base option is a four days a week program 6 hours per day
Combination option runs three days a week 6 hours per day with one home visit per month
