KOOTASCA Community Action
Circles of Support Immersion Training

Engaging the will of a community to end poverty

KOOTASCA Community Action has over five years of on the ground experience with implementing and sustaining Circles of Support in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Our learning with building relationships across class and race lines brings reality to theory based concepts and ideas.

Find out how to get started and keep Circles of Support embedded into the fabric of your community. Experience a community of Circles of Support in action! Hear the passion and commitment of over 25 members who have been with the project since the beginning.

Trainers Training topics include:

  • Build your Guiding Coalition
  • Find the right staff to lead your project to success
  • How does class and race impact your community?
  • Sustain your Circles of Support community
  • The Power of Social Capital
  • Where does the money come from?
  • Engage the business community
  • Highlight systems issues that hold poverty in place
  • Develop the leadership ability of the working poor
  • Tap into your community resources
  • And more…….!

People in poverty view life differently than people from wealth or middle class. By building relationships of mutual respect across class and race lines we’re empowering people in poverty to secure the resources they need to move toward stability or maintain it, and we can be transformed too.

This interactive workshop will use various forms of media to showcase our Circles of Support Community including personal testimony from the working poor in Itasca County and from volunteer allies who have come to know the pain of poverty through the friendships developed in Circles of Support.

Trainings are held in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Please call Alice Moren at 218-999-5728 or 1-800-422-0312 for training opportunities.
